Baptism
Baptism is a ceremony performed by Christian churches. It is done as a cleansing symbol. It shows that the person being baptized has become a follower of Jesus. Catholics baptise infants to mark their becoming members of the church. It is a sacrament performed by a priest. Sacraments are sacred actions. Through ritual, prayer and symbol they communicate God’s presence and action.
The Sacraments of Initiation are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Through them one enters life within the Christian Community.
Baptism uses symbols of water, sign of the cross, and anointing with oil.

There once was a man named John the Baptist, who actually was one of Jesus' cousins. He became a preacher and was telling others to ask for forgiveness for things they had done wrong. He wanted to help others change their lives so they could become like a brand new person inside.
John wanted to live a simple life; he felt like God was all he needed.
When people heard that John was in the area they would come from all over to listen to him and get baptized. Baptism was a very new thing for the people of the time and Jesus went to be baptised so that he could begin his mission…teaching about God’s love, healing, forgiving.

When someone believes in God, baptism is a way of showing others that you believe in Him and want to live your life the way God wants. It's like having a bath to make yourself clean on the inside. When you get baptized, it's a special way of showing that you understand that you have and need God's forgiveness.
Gospels were written at different times in different places for different audiences. Gospel writers have recorded the same event differently by exploring the Baptism of Jesus accounts.
The Baptism of Jesus ---- Matthew 3:13-17
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus ---- Mark 1:9-11
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

The Baptism and Genealogy of Jesus ---- Luke 3:21-23
21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,
the son of Heli,
