Teaching Goals: To expose students to the conventions of an exposition in order to read expositions and compose their own exposition.

Genre of Writing Task: Exposition
Language: An exposition or argument presents the writer’s point of view on an issue. Expositions can be essays, letters to the editor, speeches or blogs.
Language features of an exposition
Emotive words that show feelings and attitudes -
Words that link cause and effect - otherwise, firstly, secondly, finally
You can use second person words like commands -
Generalisations – broad statements to support ideas
Using arguments drawn from research, and statements of others to support the point/s
Cause and effect words – because, causes, stems from, consequently, leads to
Linking words - in addition, also, moreover, as well
Powerful descriptive words – sensational,

Background knowledge: Exposition is a type of writing or speech that is used to inform, describe or explain a topic. This is one of the most common types of information delivery. It is used by students, news reporters and politicians. An exposition attempts to persuade the reader to believe something by presenting one side of the argument.
Summary of the text: Ten reasons are given for Earthling children to holiday on the planet Nerdlihc. These reasons include, parent minding centres, no set bedtime, your own fashion robot, a free hoverboard, the best junk food, non stop parties, separated areas for boys and girls, the opportunity to drive your own starjet and three theme parks. Nerdlihc is children spelt backwards.
